Listen to this episode: Transform Your Home Podcast

I'm Nathan Spearing, owner and operator of Transform NC LLC here in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Before we dive into the remodeling advice I share on this podcast, I want you to know who I am and why you should trust what I have to say about home renovation.

My Construction Journey Started at 13

I've been remodeling for almost 27 years now. That might sound impossible until I tell you I started at age 13, helping my father add 1700 square feet to our family home. As the oldest of seven children in a homeschooled family, I learned early that when something needed to be built, you rolled up your sleeves and figured it out.

My dad and I did everything—excavation, plumbing, electrical, framing. We supervised the concrete pour and took the structure all the way up to a decked roof. We hired out the shingles and drywall, but everything else we did ourselves over the course of two and a half years, working Friday evenings and long Saturdays.

Military Service and Continued Building

After that formative experience, I served 14 years in the military in special operations. Even overseas on deployment, I found myself constantly building—whether it was improving our lodging, constructing necessary infrastructure, or solving logistical challenges with lumber and tools. Those construction skills never left me, and I was always the guy others turned to when something needed to be built.

Why I Founded Transform NC

After nearly 14 years of military service, I had five children and was tired of being gone and missing their childhoods. I decided to get out of the military and start Transform NC LLC in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

For almost seven years now, I've been doing residential remodeling, additions, outdoor living spaces, and some commercial work. But here's what makes Transform NC different: my wife and I have personally remodeled multiple historic homes while living in them with our children.

Living Our Work

We've owned and remodeled a 1918 historic home, an 1898 home, and currently a 1934 mansion in the village of Pinehurst. My life for the last 13 years has been eat, sleep, remodel. This gives us a unique perspective—we understand exactly what it's like to be the client during a remodel.

We know how disruptive dust can be, especially with young children. We understand how remodeling disrupts the daily rhythms of your home. We know what it's like to have subcontractors coming and going while you're trying to live your life. When I tell clients, "We remodel your home like our kids live there," I mean it literally.

Life doesn't stop for a remodel — we know because we've lived it.

Our Expertise and Standards

Over the years, I've expanded my expertise to include:

  • General contracting and residential remodeling
  • Historic home restorations
  • Premium outdoor living space construction
  • Commercial build-outs throughout Moore County

I use the same subcontractors on my personal projects that I use for clients. They have access to my house, my codes, my family. That's my standard—am I willing to send this person to work in my home while my wife and children are there? If the answer is no, they don't work for Transform NC.

Why This Podcast Exists

I'm not a podcaster—I'm a general contractor. But after years of having the same conversations with clients over and over, I realized these lessons needed to be shared more widely. Whether you're local to Moore County and we can work together, or you're somewhere else in the world planning a remodel, the principles I share will help you navigate the process successfully.

Life is too short to have a kitchen that doesn't work for you or a master bathroom that frustrates you every day. So much of what's important in life happens in the home and spills out into society. That's why we're passionate about creating beautiful spaces that enhance your life.
